Shaker Heights Middle School, originally opened as Byron Junior High School in 1957, now serves as a vibrant educational institution for Grades 6-8. With an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students, the Middle School is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and engaging learning experience.

Students at Shaker Heights Middle School have the opportunity to explore a wide range of subjects, including music, art, design, inquiry, wellness, health and various language acquisition courses. The school proudly features the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, which emphasizes:

To prepare students for advanced coursework at the high school level, all seventh-grade students take Pre-Algebra, and all eighth-graders take Algebra I. This rigorous academic foundation ensures that students are well-equipped for future challenges.

Beyond the classroom, Shaker Heights Middle School offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including numerous clubs and athletics, providing students with opportunities to pursue their interests and develop new skills. Students are additionally encouraged to create clubs based on student interest and staff availability.
