Academics
Shaker Heights Schools was the first school district in Greater Cleveland and one of only a handful of districts nationwide to offer the International Baccalaureate Program Preschool-Grade 12.
The Shaker Heights Schools curriculum is designed to nurture, educate and graduate civic-minded students who are creative thinkers and skillful problem solvers and who are actively engaged in our global and multicultural society. The District is also proud of its commitment to Inclusive Excellence and educational equity, and, to that end, has focused on creating heterogeneous and inclusive classrooms in Grades 5-8, also known as “detracking.”

At Shaker Heights Schools, the study of world languages prepares students to understand and appreciate diversity in language and culture both, both locally and globally, and leads them to become responsible world citizens.

At Shaker Heights Schools, social-emotional learning is embedded in our curriculum. Community-building learning opportunities and full-time case managers or school counselors at each school ensures students' needs are met. School psychologists and partnerships with Bellefaire JCB, Shaker Heights Youth Center, and the Black Mental Health Corporation also offer supports.

Global education has long been part of the Shaker experience. Our students have sung at St. Peter’s Basilica, performed atop the Great Wall of China, helped build homes on floating villages in Cambodia and expanded their learning through experiences in South Africa.
