Career & Technical Education

Introduction

Career Technical Education (CTE)

Shaker Heights High School is part of Heights Career Technical Prep Consortium permitting Shaker High students to enroll in Career Technical Education (CTE) courses at Bedford High School, Cleveland Heights High School, Maple Heights High School or Warrensville Heights High School. Typically, Shaker Heights High School students spend part of their day at Shaker in core education and part of their day in the neighboring high school (or Tri-C Eastern Campus) in career education. The Shaker Heights City School District pays all tuition costs for students in these programs. Counselors have detailed information about enrollment procedures. Listed below are current programs.

Course Selection

Most junior (11th grade) Career Prep programs are conducted in the morning. Most senior (12th grade) Career Prep programs are conducted in the afternoon. Please consult with your school counselor on the current hours.

All Career Technical Education Programs are part of Heights Career Technical Prep Consortium. Visit the Heights Career Tech Prep Programs page online for accurate articulation information. Conditions are subject to change as a result of funding or legislative changes. Qualified students who complete a two-year program and the academic requirements will receive Tech Prep college credit. Please see individual descriptions for potential college credits for a specific course.

The Shaker Heights Board of Education supports highly qualified students who seriously desire to master particular career skills not offered through the Heights Career Technical Prep Consortium. For example, students have studied career prep in commercial art, heating and air conditioning, horticulture, and hospitality and food through other programs  in the Greater Cleveland area. There are no guarantees with other Career Tech Programs outside of our Heights Consortium, but please consult your school counselor as soon as possible if you have such special career goals.
