Two-Year Program – 2 Units Per Year

The Audio Engineering training program consists of two years of study and skills development in digital and analog sound production and sound reinforcement. Audio Engineering students use professional quality software and hardware to gain the skills necessary to enter post­secondary study in the field of audio engineering. This program develops competencies in the areas of Audio Editing, Audio Production, Audio Post-production, sound for film, writing and communication, legal and ethical aspects, business processes, personal employability traits, and career exploration and development. Students that complete the two year program successfully are eligible to receive Tech Prep college credits. Possible college credits: 4.0

Two-Year Program –  3 Units Per Year

This two-year, Tech Prep and Automotive Service Excellence/National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (A.S.E./NATEF) certified program, is designed to develop entry-level automotive technician skills in the maintenance and repair of automobiles. Students enrolled in the program will learn automotive theory in a real world setting by working with state of the art equipment and using internet technology to access service information, technical training and web-based testing. In the junior year, students will focus on shop safety, preventative maintenance, tire repair and service, brake systems, steering and suspension, electrical and electronics. Students will have the opportunity to practice these skills by performing tasks on shop vehicles in the lab. In the senior year, students will further develop previously learned skills while adding engine repair, engine performance, emissions repairs, heating and air conditioning, computer diagnostics, transmission service, and largely focusing on work skills in the lab setting by performing repairs on customer’s vehicles. Second-semester seniors who meet the requirements have the opportunity for early job placement. Senior students are encouraged to take the A.S.E. certification test. Students must purchase uniform, work shoes/boots and safety glasses. Membership in Skills USA is available. (Possible college credits: CT2 college credits)

Two-Year Program – 2 Units Per Year

The program is designed to help develop the financial, economic, business and entrepreneurial skills and global awareness of juniors and seniors. This program prepares students for various management, finance, marketing and office technology-related careers. In the program, students discuss issues of global economic importance that today’s leaders in finance, economics and commerce strive to find solutions for. Students study methods of business operations, accounting and finance, budgeting and human resources. Students also learn document preparation, telecommunications, spreadsheet preparation and internet procedures. They will acquire skills in organization, leadership, planning, interpersonal communications, delegating and supervising. Students who meet the criteria are eligible for early job placement. (Possible college credits: 5 to 11 with certifications)

Grades 11/12
Two-Year Program – Year 1, 2 units; Year 2, 3 Units

This is an exciting two-year program for students interested in careers in the health care professions. In the first year students learn anatomy, medical terminology, infection control, communications skills and clinical procedures related to Medical Assisting. Students then apply their knowledge and skills in clinical rotations at Kaiser Permanente’s Cleveland Heights Medical Center. Observation and participation are arranged in a variety of outpatient clinics. Students also complete CPR certification and First Aid Training. In the second year, students complete the Ohio Nurse Aide Training Program and are eligible to take the test to become State Tested Nursing Assistants (STNAs). They also learn the employability skills necessary to seek and maintain employment, and do a more in-depth study of physiology and medical terminology. Early job placement is available to all second-semester seniors who qualify. (Students provide their own white pants, wrist watch and shoes.) A criminal record background check and drug test may be required for entry into the field. (Possible college credits: 11 college credits)

Full Year – 2 Units Per Year

Students train for technical and professional level careers in designing, planning, managing, building, and maintaining built environments. Students will learn about the materials and methods of carpentry, including application of construction layout and framing. Learning the fundamentals of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems allows students to apply these skills to actual construction projects. Students will also gain experience in interpreting plans and diagrams. Occupational communication and employability skills are incorporated into the curriculum.

Grades 11/12
Two-Year Program – 3 Units Per Year

This two-year program, beginning in the junior year, prepares students in the proper care and treatment of the hair, nails, skin and scalp. Students learn employability skills, shampooing, cutting, styling and hair coloring as well as the proper techniques used to do manicures, pedicures and facials. Extensive study of anatomy and physiology, as they relate to the nerves, bones and muscles, is also stressed. Chemistry is also stressed as it relates to the human body and cosmetics. Students are instructed in the care of the equipment used in beauty salons and all aspects of infection control procedures. Practical experience is gained through work on actual customers under the supervision of licensed Cosmetology instructors. They must receive a passing grade in Cosmetology and the science, math and English classes to be eligible to take the State licensing exam to become a National Licensed Cosmetologist. Membership in Skills USA is available. A kit of supplies may be purchased. (Possible college credits: 17.0 with certification)

Two-Year Program – 2 Units Per Year

This program is intended for those students interested in pursuing careers in a broad range of law enforcement/criminal justice disciplines. The curriculum includes, but is not limited to, training in criminal laws, arrest laws, CPR/First Aid certifications, loss prevention, defensive tactics, report writing, accident investigation, white collar crimes, search and seizure, forensic investigations. Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTA) certification for Private Security Career paths is available to students. Membership in SKILLS USA is available. The student MUST purchase a uniform. Qualified students who complete the two-year program and meet academic requirements will receive Tech Prep college credit along with their OPOTA certification in Private Security. Two Year Program - 2 Units Per Year

This program, in partnership between Warrensville Hts. and Tri-C Eastern Campus, teaches the fundamentals of Culinary Arts & Hospitality through classroom and hands-on instruction at Tri-C. Students will be introduced students to culinary arts, foodservice operations, lodging, travel and tourism. Students will obtain knowledge of customer service principles and examine the impact of cultural, historical, social and technological developments on key segments of the industry. They will also apply safety and sanitation techniques to prevent and control injuries, illnesses and diseases in the workplace. Business law, employability skills, leadership and communications will be addressed.

Two-Year Program – 2 Units Per Year

Digital Video Production is a two-year program designed for students who plan to enter the world of digital filmmaking. The curriculum is a balance of both the technical and creative aspects of video production. In this course, you’ll develop studio, technical and professional skills and build a strong and marketable portfolio with an emphasis on production, editing and visual effects. This exciting and fast-growing field offers career opportunities at advertising agencies, internet media outlets, corporate media departments, independent production companies and in broadcast television. Membership in SKILLS USA is available. (Possible college credits: 3.0 to 20.0 with certifications and portfolio)

2 Year Program - 2 Units Per Year

The Engineering and Science Technologies – Engineering, Robotics, and Machining program is designed to allow students to apply theoretical science and mathematical concepts in a project-based, authentic learning environment. Students will step into the role of engineers, manufacturers, robot operators and programmers, and machinists. The program’s courses engage students in engineering and manufacturing processes to go from student’s initial designs to finished products through fascinating, real-world projects and activities that help students develop thinking and communication skills. Students use a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery including: 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, Thermal Vacuum Formers, Wind Tunnels, Industrial Robots, and Industrial Mills and Lathes. Students also take from the courses in-demand industry skills and credentials such as: FANUC Handling Tool Operations and Programming, NIMS Level 1 Machining, Autodesk User, OSHA, and more.

Two-Year Program – 2 Units Per Year

This two-year program is designed to prepare students for a career in an engineering technology field and to establish a foundation for further university-level study in such fields as architectural, mechanical, electrical/computer, civil and environmental engineering. This is accomplished by applying problem-solving techniques in collaborative real-world situations faced by design engineers. Engineering design principles will be evaluated and explored through exercises and projects that use traditional and computer-aided design techniques. Class projects include mechanical and architectural models with the accompanying design documentation required to turn concepts into production-ready products and services. Senior year will continue the engineering design curriculum with the study of machine design, manufacturing process, robotics and computer programming. The Project Lead the Way curriculum will be incorporated in the program. Membership in Skills USA is available. (Possible college credits: CT2 college credits)

Two-Year Program – 3 Units First Year, 2 Units Second Year

This two-year program is designed to prepare students for a career in a sports medicine, exercise science or other health-related field such as physical therapy, athletic training, cardiorespiratory rehab or medical doctor specialties. The exercise science program promotes and integrates scientific research, education and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance health, fitness, performance and quality of life. Coursework in exercise science prepares students to enter collegiate-level allied health care programs that will lead to prosperous careers. Students will schedule Anatomy and Physiology as part of the three-period block in the junior year which will be taught by a licensed science teacher and a science credit will be earned. (Possible college credits: CT2 college credits)

Full Year – 1 Unit Per Year

In this fast-paced and highly challenging program, students learn about the science of firefighting, fire prevention and the safety and hazards associated with fires. Students study behavior, suppression, compartmentalization, and investigation of fire and its related emergencies, and all the associated training of an Emergency Medical Technician. Students will spend their senior year on the campus of Cuyahoga Community College Fire Academy, earning college credit and the opportunity to become certified Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians.

Full Year – 3 Units Per Year

This two-year program offers students the opportunity to develop their creative talents. In this exciting program, students can design and produce their own projects from start to finish. They will learn about design, layout, typesetting, darkroom techniques and photo-offset printing. Through the use of Macintosh computers, students will learn techniques involved in desktop publishing. These skills are directly related to various phases of newspaper and magazine publishing. The fast-growing, $12 billion graphic industry presents a variety of career options, such as press operating, electronic and desktop publishing and screen printing. Membership in Skills USA is available. (Possible college credits: CT2 college credits)

Grade 12
One-Year Program – 4 Units

In the Marketing Prep class, students learn the principles of business and marketing, the concepts of economics, free enterprise, the stock market, and the understanding of human resource skills that an effective marketer must possess. The class also focuses on topics such as career exploration, employability skills and personal finance. The Marketing Education class helps students gain knowledge and skills associated with distribution, marketing information, management, pricing, promotion, purchasing, advertising and selling. The year ends with the writing of a business plan for a prospective business. The Cooperative Work Experience/Internship teaches students the responsibilities of a job, human and personal relations, and time management. A competitive activities program through the DECA club is part of the program along with a community service project. (Possible college credits: 7)

Grades 11/12
Two-Year Program – 3 Units First Year, 2 Units Second Year

This two-year program is designed to prepare students for careers in Pharmacy and other medical fields. It also gives students a sound foundation for further university-level study to become pharmacists, doctors, nurses, etc. This is accomplished through classroom, lab and work-based experiences. Students will receive instruction in pharmacy laws, ethics, calculations, prescription preparation, medical terminology, computer applications, anatomy, physiology and pathology, first aid, infection control, compounding routes and formulations, employability skills and pharmacy business. A criminal record background check and drug test may be required for entry into the field. Students will schedule Anatomy and Physiology as part of the three-period block that will be taught by a licensed science teacher and a science credit will be earned. (Possible college credits: CT2 college credit)

Full Year – 2 Units Per Year

This program is a two-year orientation for the teaching profession. Students are exposed to teaching careers and the education system through simulations, “hands-on” activities, and observations. Students will learn the essential skills of conceptualizing, planning, and implementing curriculum for a variety of student populations. Content also includes a study of the legal and social issues surrounding public education. Students will gain a background in child development and learning theory. In addition to the curriculum components, all students are required to participate in field experience in a public school classroom for approximately 5 weeks.

Two-Year Program – 2 Units Per Year

This two-year program is designed to prepare students for a career in sports medicine, exercise science or other health-related fields such as physical therapy, athletic training, cardiorespiratory rehab or medical doctor specialties. The Sports Medicine/Exercise Science program integrates scientific research, education and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance health, fitness, performance and quality of life. Coursework in Exercise Science prepares students to enter collegiate-level allied health care programs that will lead to prosperous careers. (Possible college credits: CT2 college credits)

Grade 11

Full Year - 1 Unit

This course teaches students about the video game production process, history and trends in video games, the fundamental elements of Game Design Theory, and the programming skills necessary for beginning game development. Leveraging the industry-standard Unity Game Engine, students will immerse themselves in hands-on project-based work to learn the art of coding both 2D and 3D games in C#. By the end of this course, students will understand the design process that drives game creation and have developed a basic skill set to program 2D and 3D video games in a professional environment. No previous coding experience is required, though a background in algebra is beneficial. 

Recommended co-requisite: Illustration and Digital Design I

Grades 9/10
Full Year – 1 Unit
 
 This course is designed to give students the opportunity to apply theoretical science and mathematical concepts in an engineering and technology environment. The course will stress the application of the IB Middle Years Programme Design Process: Inquiring and Analyzing, Developing Ideas, Creating a Solution, and Evaluating. Students will work on projects and solve problems dealing with topics such as: positive messaging, truss structures, architecture, programming, computer aided design and manufacturing, manufacturing, optics, biospherics and more. These projects will let the student experience a range of engineering genres including mechanical, civil, computer, systems, structural, biomedical and others. The course models real-world engineering and design practices and assessments. For students in the Engineering and Science Technologies Career Technical Education pathway at Shaker Heights High School, this is the first of the required courses.

Grades 10/11/12
Full Year – 1 Unit
 
This course is designed to give students experience in robotics, mechatronics, basic electronics, and laboratory safety through training modules and authentic advanced manufacturing hands-on projects. Students can earn several industry credentials and up to 8 points towards graduation through the career pathway. The industry credentials and graduation points students can earn after passing credential tests include: OSHA 10-hour General Industry Certification (1 point), CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (1 point), and FANUC Handling and Tool Operation & Programming J2P0310 IACT Approval (6 points). Students will receive credit when at least 2 points are earned toward graduation through industry training and passage of industry credential tests. For students in the Engineering and Science Technologies Career Technical Education pathway at Shaker Heights High School, this is one of the required courses.

Grades 10, 11, 12                          
Full Year  - 1 Unit
 
This course is designed to teach the principles of machining and metal cutting using machine tools, hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Students will use design tools, and commonly used industrial materials such as wood, metals, polymers and other commonly used industrial materials to complete a number of projects throughout the year. Students have the opportunity to earn industry credentials after passing credentialing tests in the following areas: NIMS Level 1 Measurement, Materials, and Safety Certification (6 or 12 points), OSHA 10-hr Certification (1 point), CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (1 point), and Autodesk Certification (4 points). Students will receive credit if they achieve NIMS Level 1 Certification. For students in the Engineering and Science Technologies Career Technical Education pathway at Shaker Heights High School, this is one of the required courses.
